Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins scored a stunner as Shanghai Shenhua beat Shanghai SIPG to win the Chinese FA Cup final on away goals rule after playing 3-3 on aggregate.
The win was the club’s first since 1998.
They have, therefore, earned a berth at next season’s Asian Champions League.
Martins’ side were largely regarded as the underdogs going into the two-legged tie as they were up against a side parading the Brazilians Hulk and former Chelsea star Oscar.
They won the first leg 1-0 courtesy of a goal scored by Martins.
SIPG may have eventually lost the tie but they went out fighting, winning 3-2 at Shanghai Stadium.
