Presidency has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari requires a medical checkup in London but will first depart Abuja for Kenya to participate in the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Environmental Programme.

In a statement on Tuesday, the president’s spokesman Femi Adesina said Mr Buhari would, from Kenya, go to London for a routine medical checkup.

The event will be held from March 3 to 4 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Last July, he was away from the country on a three-week medical vacation in the United Kingdom. This year’s “routine medical checks will last for a maximum of two weeks,” said Mr Adesina.

He explained that the president’s trip to Kenya was a sequel to an invitation extended to him by his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The theme of the special session is ‘Strengthening UNEP For The Implementation Of The Environmental Dimension Of The 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development’.

Mr Buhari is expected to deliver the country’s national statement and participate in high-level dialogue sessions on the environment at the event.

The president would be accompanied by foreign affairs minister Geoffrey Onyeama, junior environment minister Sharon Ikeazor, and national security adviser Babagana Monguno.

Others on the trip include the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai, and the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
