The Nigerian Minister of Educaton, Adamu Adamu has said Nigerians have no good reason to be disappointed over the government’s failure to end the six-month-old strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Adamu made the assertion on Wednesday evening while featuring on Channels Television’s interview programme, Politics Today, monitored by SaharaReporters.

“If Nigerians are disappointed, I think they don’t have very good reasons to be disappointed with the government on this.

“I think the government has offered the best it can, and you know there is no demand that can be met a hundred percent,” Adamu said.

Asked if he is impressed with what the government has offered to the striking university lecturers, the education minister maintained that he is convinced that the Nigerian government has done its best and offered what is capable of making the union call off the strike.

Adamu insisted that while Nigerians mount pressure on the government to end the strike, they should also mount more pressure on the lecturers who, according to him, have refused to shift ground on their demands, despite the government’s offer.

The minister who argued that no demand can be met 100 percent held that the government, having offered the best it can, the union is expected to reconsider its position for the sake of the students, their parents and the entire country.
