Head coach of reigning Aiteo Cup champions Akwa United Abdul Maikaba has charged his players to up the ante in the next football season.
Aside winning the domestic Cup last season, the Promise Keepers finished fourth in the Nigeria Professional Football League, the first time in their history.
And Maikaba believes the Uyo-based side can better their achievement last season with discipline and dedication.

He was speaking at the Uyo Township stadium, where players of the Orange team were training ahead of the new season.
”We have a tough season ahead of us. We have to defend the Aiteo Cup, do better in the league and help the country to raise the profile of our sagging continental showing” He told the club’s media.
When asked if players were on trials at the club, the former Wikki Tourists and Enyimba handler said “there will be no trials. I have submitted a list of Players we need to the Management and I believe they are in contact with those players and the sooner we can get them, the better. We have no time on our hands. Players must be serious and disciplined. Hard work awaits all of us.”
Akwa United alongside Nigerian champions Plateau United, Lagos-based MFM, and two-time African champions Enyimba will represent Nigeria in Caf club competitions in 2018.
